Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has dominated the market during its opening release week.

Lately, there has been a lot of Call of Duty news hitting the internet. Though most of it is a user-generated backlash, there is still hope on the horizon for the Activision classic.

Despite the constant influx of new COD games, from world wars to terrorist sniper assignments, there is always a need for fighting and revisiting different times in mankind’s war-heavy past. Yet, with this reboot Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (a quite-to-the-numbers title of their 2007 classic Modern Warfare) the game is doing gangbusters in the money department.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has so far made Activision Blizzard over $650 million dollars over the past weekend alone.

Chief Executive Officer, Bobby Kotick, released the exact amount of cash returns this week in a statement Activision Blizzard. Kotick compared Modern Warfare‘s success to the uprising success of Warner Bros. Joker.

“In its first three days of release, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare more than doubled the box office opening of Joker.”

Modern Warfare has also shattered sales records at a formerly unprecedented amount, with the game already reaching above the standards Activision Blizzard had for an opening week.

Within the small amount of time, it has become the number one Call of Duty PC launch in the entire franchise’s career, setting records on the PlayStation Network for digital pre-orders (everywhere except Russia).

Activision’s and Blizzard’s Continued Success

On top of all of that with the game is performing extremely well over at Blizzard Battle.net. This mostly due to the fact that there has been cross-platform availability for players since the actual debut. It seems Activision Blizzard is certainly celebrating their successes.

Rob Kostich, President of Activision, talked about his regard for Activision and their team over the years for delivering quality games with profitable sales numbers:

“Through the first three days, Modern Warfare has more total players and total hours played than any Call of Duty opening release in the last six years. More importantly, our players are having a great time playing. Congratulations to Infinity Ward and all our teams involved in an incredible game and its spectacular launch. We also want to thank the community for your incredible support. The launch of Modern Warfare is only the start. There’s much more to come.”

With the title’s longevity more than guaranteed by addictive multiplayer action and DLC, there is without a doubt no need for a ceasefire in the Call of Duty series of monetary success.
