The World Champions take on CS:GO

FunPlus Phoenix has officially entered the competitive CS:GO scene with the signing of the former Heroic roster, the organization confirmed today. This announcement comes just a few days after a report from 1pv revealed the organization’s plan to sign the Danish lineup. The team will be competing in the inaugural season of Flashpoint this weekend.

FunPlus Phoenix is a Chinese esports organization most known for their League of Legends team, who last year won the World Championship over G2 Esports. Their LoL side currently sits at sixth in the LPL, though the league has been stalled due to the Coronavirus. The organization also sponsors teams in Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. They have never previously fielded a CS:GO team, making this their first step into the game.

Denmark’s Heroes

While under the Heroic banner, the team won DreamHack Open Atlanta and later placed third at EPICENTER 2019 and DreamHack Open Leipzig. They currently stand as the 14th best team in the world, the highest ranking the team’s core has achieved so far.

The roster consists of in-game leader Marco “Snappi” Pfeiffer, Patrick “es3tag” Hansen, Martin “stavn” Lund, Johannes “b0RUP” Borup, and Casper “cadiaN” Møller. Along with retaining the full lineup, FunPlus Phoenix has also acquired the team’s coach, Frederik “LOMME” Nielsen.

Additionally, FunPlus Phoenix’s venture into Counter-Strike sees them become a founding member of the Flashpoint league. This deal allows the organization to join seven other founding teams in Flashpoint’s revenue share model. The league’s first-ever season began earlier this week, pitting twelve teams against each other for the lion’s share of a $1,000,000 prize pool.

FunPlus Phoenix will make their Counter-Strike debut in Flashpoint Season 1, where they will take on Cloud9 in their opening match-up on Sunday, March 15th.
