Blizzard has officially revealed Overwatch 2 at BlizzCon after a report about the game earlier this week, including an early look at gameplay. You can expect four-player missions in the history of events (an ongoing version of the current missions) and hero missions in familiar and new venues as the franchise expands. So far, several storeys have been played in films and comics. The storey missions include an item system to collect and use equipment such as curative packages, grenades and shields.

This time around, the Overwatch team presents character levelling. There are abilities to unlock (or “talents”) for hero missions and perhaps storey missions, but in player-versus-player modes you can not adjust the hero abilities. Several legends, including the long-rumoured Sojourn, can be expected to come. New character models are available to the present heroes and Blizzard refreshes the user interface too.

Overwatch 2, which begins in the game in Toronto, has an optional key mode called Push. We see teams fighting for control of a robot that moves the opposing side of the asymmetric map with a goal. More maps, including Rio de Janeiro, Göteborg and Monte Carlo, can be expected.

More than 50 million players are now in Overwatch, and the Blizzard does not plan to put fans into lurch in the original game. All your gains (including awards and accessories and emotes unlocked) will go through Overwatch 2 and control maps and heroes. Moreover, players across Overwatch and Overwatch 2 can team up or duck it in competitive mode in series core 6 versus 6.

Overwatch 2 doesn’t have a date yet, but Blizzard confirmed that PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch will be uploaded. In the meantime updates are still planned for Overwatch, however, because Overwatch 2 is more focused, during the anniversary in May there won’t be a new Archives mission.
