The Mattamy Athletic Centre has been unveiled as the Toronto Ultra’s home venue for the 2020 Call of Duty League Season.
OverActive Media (OAM) has announced that the Mattamy Athletic Centre (formerly known as the iconic Maple Leaf Gardens) will be the venue for all Toronto Ultra home matches in the 2020 Call of Duty League Season. OverActive Media is the global esports entertainment organization behind the Toronto Defiant and the Toronto Ultra.
This is exciting news for not only Call of Duty fans but esports fans and stakeholders as a whole. Hosting Call of Duty League matches at a historic venue like the former Maple Leaf Gardens further bridges the gap between esports and traditional sports. The Maple Leaf Gardens is considered one of the “cathedrals” of ice hockey and best known for being home to the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1931 to 1999. Such a move strengthens esports credibility as a whole in the mainstream media.
Chris Overholt, President and CEO of OverActive Media, said in a statement that “this is yet another significant moment for our global esports and entertainment organization, as we continue to put Toronto on the esports map.” Overholt went on to say “we know that there is an established crossover audience between Call of Duty fans and traditional sports, and that is in large part, why we are so proud to be calling the former Maple Leaf Gardens our home for the upcoming season.”
OAM strategically unveiled this news just a day before tickets for the Call of Duty League games in Toronto went on pre-sale. Tickets to the general public officially went on sale the next day, Wednesday, November 27 at 11:00 am (ET).
The Toronto Ultra will host two Home Series weekends in the 2020 Call of Duty League Season. The two home series are scheduled for March 21-22, 2020 and July 18-19, 2020, respectively. Both Home Series weekends will be filled with activities. Multiple matches will occur both weekend days along with autograph sessions, partner activations, and other fan-facing events; all hosted at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.

The full 10-player roster and team branding were revealed last month during a 1,500 person launch event at the Rebel Entertainment Complex.
