Halo partners with esports teams such as FaZe Clan and Envy in preparation for competitive Halo Infinite.

Competitive Halo is back in a significant way. With the series’ latest installment due for release this December, the landscape is beginning to take shape. Several reputable brands within the esports scene have already committed to their involvement in Halo Infinite when the first round of tournaments arrive. Some of those include FaZe Clan, Envy, G2 Esports, Sentinels, Cloud9 and many more. As a result, Halo Infinite is already off to a good start.

The official Twitter account of the Halo Championship Series (HCS) revealed the exciting news earlier today. A one-minute-long trailer ensued and depicted the logos of some iconic brands in competitive gaming. While most rosters remain undecided at this stage, we have a glance at what Halo Esports will look like when the newest title launches this holiday season.

Cloud9 – Penguin, Eco, Stellur, Renegade
Envy – Pistola, Tripppey, aPG, Lucid
eUnited – Rayne, Ryanoob, Spartan, Nick
FaZe Clan – TBD
FNATIC – TBD
G2 Esports – TBD
Natus Vincere – TBD
Sentinels – Snakebite, Lxthul, Royal2, Frosty
Spacestation – TBD

Only four of the nine announced teams have revealed their roster. Some notable names include Pistola, who returns to Envy with seemingly a lifetime of experience in competitive Halo, dating back to Halo 3. Perhaps the most accomplished roster of Snakebite, Lxthul, Royal2 and Frosty have rejoined Sentinels for the Halo Infinite season. This team dominated the competitive scene during Halo 5 Guardians and continued success when tournaments returned classic titles such as Halo 3 and Halo 2 Remastered.

It’s unclear what the landscape will look like, considering the game is still a few months away from release. However, the HCS team did explain what this partnership means to competitive Halo for the foreseeable future via an FAQ on the press release.

“These Teams are investing significant funding into the Halo ecosystem and we want to ensure that the Halo ecosystem can give back financially to them,” the statement reads. “They’re going to be paying players, coach, manager salaries, creating entertaining content for fans to watch, and they’ll even have the opportunity of setting up booths at our events to spend time with the community. None of the investment funding is going to us, it’s all going to the community!”

“Part of why these Teams were selected was because they wanted to be a part of the Halo community for the long haul. In return for their investment, the partnership with teams starts with in-game content where they will receive a significant share of the revenue,” the statement continues. “Each partnered team will have multiple bundles released within Halo Infinite, which the prior bundle being placed into the vault as the next one releases. Additionally, Teams will be given a wealth of content and opportunities to film content at events so that they can entertain their fans and bring in new ones.”

It appears these organizations have priority on content surrounding Halo Infinite and cosmetic inclusions in the game. Like Halo 5 Guardians, 343 Industries will presumably develop in-game weapon skins and other wearable items themed with each team’s likeness. Halo Infinite is set for release on December 8, 2021.
